What is the nature of your business? (Business Profile)
We considered ourselves as an Event Company, we basically organise an event, give you a Match, a topic (movie) and follow by a ticket to the events of fun. We chose Movie, as it is the most popular and easy subject to start off. We are using movies link up with friends making services, people can watch movie and make friends at the same time.
What made you embark on this venture choice?
One of the busy Saturday nights, my friend and I (Matthew) are out in Orchard road, two single male walking aimlessly and I notice there are quite a many of pretty gals walking alone if not in groups. It strike to me why there isn't a system that can match us to these Singles ladies and arrange a movie for us, not ICQ or chat line as there are too many teenagers there. A site that will follow Executives age group of people to like-minded people and more importantly, a stress less opportunity.
How does your business work?
Sign up, system will automatically give you a Match List base on your Prefer Date Profile, you can invite the gals/guys for the movie you wish to watch. Send it to them, they Accept, the guy will ALWAYS pay for the movie ticket, as we believe this is what a Gentleman should do on a First Date as least. Once he made the payment, our ADMIN/DESPATCH staff will process the paper work and the despatch will send out the ticket to the doorstep of both parties by HAND. Both will then meet inside the theatre, as they knew each other seat number. Thrill?
Did you have the capital to start the business or did you have to borrow from someone to get started?
Yes. We start out using our hard earn saving.
Do your parents have their own businesses too? Have they inspired you in one way or another?
No. We are inspired by the encouragement Singapore Government want its people to be Creative and an Opportunity Seeker! So question for us is: why not?
What was your childhood dream? When did you decide that you would strike out on your own instead of working for someone else?
As a child I wanted to be a Cartoonist and Wilson a Scientist. In a way, we have this "endless ideas in our mind" since young. We both started working for others for a few years, me as an Art Director in a MNC Ad. Agency and Wilson as a Sales Manger in a big company. We felt we could do much more if we will to strike it on our own, as we know we have the drive and determination to break through.
Why does someone decide to be on their own rather than join an existing company?
Enough of spoon-feeding?
Are there at any point in your life that you experienced a significant event (WW2, racial riots of the 1960s, the Economic Crisis of the 80s or 90s, SARS, new competition or shifts in market behaviour and trends) which affected or influenced you and your business that made you change the way you think and do your business?
Well when there are crisis, we look at it as an opportunity. Every negative situation there will be a Positive point somewhere, we just have to find it. After much of up and downs, we have to learn to be positive.
What are some of the challenges in starting a business from scratch?
Financially and technical knowledge is a big challenge to us! Both of us have no Idea of what to do, what we need and who to look for to start a customise programmed site. We did not come up with huge capital therefore there isn't much budget for advertising and Marketing too.
Who/What motivates you?
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Long
